Spiff! I'm sadly a bit of a FB addict, and check it waaaay more often than anything else I can think of. Including, but not limited to, calendars! Had no idea January was flying right by til now.

that could work. anything as far as content I put up is on devart anyway and yeah facebook works a ccw group could be good, maybe itll actually get tim to get his own facebook anyway.

I've been doing some fixing and the search and categories work again. I've also been thinking that this page has outlived its usefulness. Everybody who posts or comments here is on facebook and checks that more than they check here. What would everybody think about locking down this site and creating a CCW group on facebook? And by lock down, I mean all the information will still be here for nostalgia and the logins will still work if there's something you want to take down or alter, but it won't allow the posting of new comments or content.

Thoughts?

As of yesterday at 5pm, I'm unemployed. Or rather, on a forced leave of absence (called a furlough) because my company can't afford to pay me. Welcome to the world of small startups.

They put us on furlough instead of laying everybody off because there's still some hope that we'll get another round of funding. If that happens, it should be the last time: the company is doing very well. One more round should cover us until we break even and start generating our own profit. It's frustrating because we're so close to being able to stand on our own and heartbreaking because we may never get there.

But, I won't know if we have funding or not for another couple of weeks and in that time, I'm more or less unemployed. Which means anything I had planned for the future has been canceled and that includes coming home for Christmas. Who knows, maybe this whole thing will blow over in another week, but if it doesn't I'm looking at months of job interviews.

On a brighter note, it means I have absolutely no reason not to do NaNoWriMo this year.

Gotta say I watched all of 5 minutes of the debate tonight and well I can tell you what you need to know. Hoffman isn't ready to be mayor of Worth let alone in Congress, Owens doesn't have an opinion of his own, and says he needs to talk to someone about everything. Scozafavva knows what she's talking about and frankly the only one who knows anything about the area. Owens and Hoffman had no clue as to anything about the seaway and Hoffman even said that he didn't know anything about it, which if I'm gonna vote for someone to represent this area I'd hope they'd at least attempt to get to know the area before they go on tv and try and talk.

So, yesterday I was supposed to attend a premiere geek show called w00tstock. Adam Savage, Wil Wheaton and Paul and Storm are the headliners and they're joined by a few other people. But due to my procrastination, I had 30 pages of a screenplay to write and 3 days of work to do between 1am monday morning and 6am tuesday morning. I got it all done, but going to w00tstock was out of the question. As was sleep.

I'm using this as a turning point, as fuel for some good ol fashioned neuro-linguistic programming. Because of my chronic procrastination, I missed out on a once in a lifetime geek event. Now, whenever I feel like putting something off, I'm saying out loud 'w00tstock' as a bitter reminder of what procrastination leads to. It's been a good motivator so far, I hope it keeps working.

I'm also taking another look at my sleeping habits. I'm unable to sleep for more than 3 hours at a stretch and have been for the past month. This is a good recipe for walking zombie syndrome, so I decided to use the extended period of sleep deprivation to my advantage.

Who knows what the everyman polyphasic sleep cycle is?

Basically, I'm going to be sleeping for 3 hours at night and then take 3, 20 minute naps during the day. I'm taking advantage of the sleep deprivation to speed my body's transition into the new sleep cycle.

The last few time I tried this, I couldn't work out a schedule that would let me take the naps at the times they needed to be taken. But now that I live 5 minutes from the office, it's not a problem.

I'll update in another month or two to report how the whole "let's not be lazy" / "don't be tired" thing's gone, since I know how much you all love seeing me go loopy.

On a writing note, I'm still working hard on the screenplay I started back at CCA. It's changed a bit, but it still focuses on three NNY losers who accidentally get caught in a turf war between two meth smuggling Montreal crime families. Some of the bizarre elements include a fixation with Tim Hortons, a love of synchronized swimming, using showtunes as a method of torture, a slap fight bar brawl, the professional execution of a store mannequin and Quebec Separatists. I'm having a lot of fun writing it and I hope I can do something with it when I'm finished.

I also have a reading with a few members from my CCA class on November 1st. I'm writing something new for it and I'm leaning toward an urban fantasy story featuring a teenage Necromancer who can't get a date. I have 15 minutes to play with, so it should be interesting.

In other life changes, I've pretty much stopped drinking alcohol. It wasn't really planned, I've just lost my taste for being drunk. I still drink on occasion, if there are really good beers on tap or if I'm in the mood to be writerly and sit down with an old fashioned glass of good scotch. But it's become one of those "once in a blue moon" type situations, something you do purely for the enjoyment of the drink itself. And I love my old fashioned whisky glasses etched with the letters "/dev/null".

Let's see, what else? I moved again. I've been in my new place for a month. It's great in that it's really close to work and the writing studio and I know the area really well (it's the same place I lived in when I first came out to San Francisco).

So, that's my life. Lots of busy, lots of plotting and every couple of months, I move.

So I just heard about the Congressional race going on in NNY on NPR. I looked around a little online to see what sort of stances there were on issues in addition to what was mentioned on the radio. I'd love to read some more about positions, but of course those are incredibly difficult to find compared to poll numbers. I did find this link on labor things:

Oddly enough, I find myself drawn to the Republican candidate to start off, Scozzafava. She was/is? assemblywomen up there. - Eh, reading more it's not as great as I might have hoped, but Owens isn't all that wonderful either. Of course either would definitely be better than Hoffman. Boo, hiss...

I recreated the WOT Dragon from the chapter icons in a vector format in b&w cause I intend to laser it onto something. Quite possibly my laptop with some other icons to be vectored in the near future and or my faceplate of my xbox. I left my version with and without the square as well as the crappy version of the original I was using to draw. Let me know which you like best.
